Open Mat for Women in Jiu Jitsu

The number of women in Jiu Jitsu is unknown but one thing is sure- we stick together and we encourage the brave women who decides to take this path and commit to a long term martial art.

On Saturday, September 15th, women in Atlantic Canada came together for an open mat at Wulfrun MMA dojo to train, roll and make new friends.

From 1pm to 3pm Professor Paul Abel taught us new techniques and helped us understand how we are suppose to execute them. I believe he is the only male who decided to be there for us and teach all the ladies who come to our dojo. So, thank you for that.

From 3pm to 4 pm we rolled. I met a bunch of fellows jiujiteiras for the first time. We had women of all ages, size and ethnicity. This was amazing to me. I was so happy to see such a diverse crowd! I love them all, especially a girl named Claudia, just like me. You can see the joy of meeting each other on our faces in this picture.

After the open mat we got to hang out with each other a cottage. One of the girls offered the cottage for a sleepover after the exhausting open mat event.

We had so much fun getting to know each other over delicious food and drinks.

The party broke around 1…at least we left around that time…lol

This event happens every year and I wish there were more women from our dojo because this was one hell of an event. You missed quite a lot gals!

For me, personally, being able to make to the event and rolling with the girls was an achievement. I say that because I got over some fears. I learned when to tap. I learned when how to handle my panic attacks when under pressure.

I am looking forward to participate to the next WTF PEI EDITION AND OVERNIGHT event!

Special thanks to Paul Abel for teaching us, Courtney Pratt and Jill Macisaac for organizing the event. Jill also was a wonderful host at the cottage (Man, she is funny).

With all this said. Please join us at the next event! You are more than welcome.
