Romanian Gal in Canada (Romanca in Canada)

Hello,

I have been in Canada for 5 years. I love living in Prince Edward Island. It is a quiet place You will read below some of my thoughts as a newcomer in Canada.

This story is from 3 years ago when I was still considered a tourist in Canada and I was planning to immigrate. This is how my story started. I am now getting ready to apply for citizenship.

Here is the story:

ENGLISH VERSION:

I have been in Canada for a few month and I think there are many things that must be said, but not necessarily bad things. I would like to talk about the PR process, how long it is, what were the steps I took, who I got in touch with, what I did to make sure I was following the right steps for gaining my residency and eventually my citizenship.

Meanwhile, I this is my situation: I am 24 years old, I am a Romanian citizen, I have a tourist visa, I live in PEI, Canada with my fiance and I do not have a job.

Let’s start:

OUR STORY

Canada is one of the most honest countries in the world, therefore it demands to be treated alike. I definitely did that.

The story starts with a job that I applied for and with a professional collaboration that led to friendship and later to love. I fell in love with a Canadian guy named Mark and he loved me back. We met via a job post. At first it was just a long distance relationship because I was home studying for my Masters.

Sunt in Canada de cateva luni si cred ca sunt o multime de lucruri care trebuiesc spuse, nu in sensul rau, desigur.  As vrea sa vorbesc despre procesul asteptarii rezidentei, care este incredibil de lung si despre ce am facut eu, cui m-am adresat, cand am facut anumiti pasi pentru a urma calea corecta catre obtinere rezidentei si eventual cetateniei.

When things got serious, I decided it was time to visit him. After my visit, I came back to Romania with a warm heart full of happiness and love. After a year of long distance relationship I decided to go back and live with him for a few month, just to test the waters. Everything went well, better than well because in October he proposed. We are happy and we want to get married now.

VISA

Because we were both cautious and aware that the relationship might not work out, we decided to go for a tourist visa for now. It worked out very well so I had to make a trip to the Canadian Embassy in Bucharest and I applied for tourist visa. The first time I applied for a single entry visa and I received 6 months visa. The second time I applied for a multi entry visa and I received 4 years.

Comment: Canada doesn’t really have a tourist visa. It is actually called temporary visa and it is given to tourists.

MARRIAGE

Romania doesn’t recognize any canadian official paperwork. This means if you get married in Canada, you are not legally married in Romania. You do not necessarily have to be married to apply for permanent residency, but we are getting married because this is what we want and we feel it is time for us. In another article I will explain what is the process of getting married in Canada, as an immigrant spouse. After we are getting married, we want to apply for spousal sponsorship.

TOO MUCH FREE TIME

I don’t have a job, a car or friends and I live in a small town in Canada. Don’t worry, it is not that bad, as long as you take is as an opportunity to do whatever you want. By the way, it is forbidden to work in Canada while on a tourist visa. If you work under the table, do not expect to ever become a citizen. Liers do not go far.

ENGLISH

Canada is one of the countries that embraces immigrants, so you will notice a diversity of nationalities where ever you go. Canadians are use to broken English speakers and different accents. All you have to do is to be able to talk and understand at a intermediate level. Nobody is asking you to speak perfect English, or know the perfect grammer and nobody is judging you if you can’t pronounce a word. You you are to hard on yourself, like me, you will do everything possible to learn more and sounds like a canadian, in respect for the country you will live in and in hope you will find a good job that will pay well.

There are so many things to talk about…From the way people talk, architecture, and culinary aspect to the thick layer of snow and snow storms. Stay tune for more stories about Canada.

I am hoping that the info I am sharing will be helpful for the million of romanian who are looking to settle down in Canada and found there peace here.

I am looking forward to hear your questions and stories.

ROMANIAN VERSION:

Sunt in Canada de cateva luni si cred ca sunt o multime de lucruri care trebuiesc spuse, nu in sensul rau, desigur.  As vrea sa vorbesc despre procesul asteptarii rezidentei, care este incredibil de lung si despre ce am facut eu, cui m-am adresat, cand am facut anumiti pasi pentru a urma calea corecta catre obtinere cetateniei.

Cand lucrurile au devenit serioase, am decis sa-i fac o vizita. Dupa aceea vizita, am revenit in tara, mai indragostita si mai fericita decat am plecat. Totul a mers minunat si in octombrie m-a cerut de sotie.

CASATORIA
